Antiquitas Viva conferences, organized by the classical philologists of the University of Latvia, traditionally pay attention to a certain aspect of the ancient world, stressing its vitality and heredity into the modern society. This time, the research interests of the conference Antiquitas Viva are related to movement. The movement as a convincing driving force, careful or barely felt movement, certain direction or, maybe, the encouragement; the movement as a condition for changes, inheritance or development; literal and figurative meanings of the movement and motion, as well as other aspects related to the movement in the ancient world and its reception.

The aim of the conference, paying special attention to classical languages and texts written in those languages, encouraging to research, describe, experience and get inspiration from the ancient world, is to get a broad, versatile understanding of various manifestations of movement and motion, their shades and intensity of meaning. Various spheres of the humanities (linguistics, literary studies, history, philosophy) and interdisciplinary approach can offer a versatile description of these questions that will lead towards a thought-provoking scholarly discussion.
